Scripture Study Reflection Questions - The Glorious Mysteries

Homework from the Final Presentation - Please respond to one of the two questions below:

1.  What does it mean to be a disciple of Christ today? How do you live out your discipleship in your day to day life?

2.  How has the Holy Spirit worked in your life most recently?  Provide at least one example of how you allowed yourself to be open to the presence of the Holy Spirit and what was the result?

What does it mean to be a disciple of Christ today?

After giving this question some significant thought, what I believe is simply this: to be a disciple of Christ means first and foremost to recognize that we are sinners.  We acknowledge our sinfulness, and then we take up our cross and follow Him.

We follow Him because we know what he did out of love for us and we know how the story ends...

How very blessed are we to be called to be His disciples.

I was raised in a Christian tradition that not only wore its Christianity on its sleeve, but shoved it down one's throat whether one wanted it or not. My grandmother was a Jehovah's Witness, and as a child, I accompanied her on many of her runs.  While I find this sort of evangelization distasteful, there were many things I learned from that tradition (and from my parents' ministry through music in various churches) that carry me through today.  One was that work is meant for the glory of the Lord and should be approached with an attitude the same as if one were going to church or offering it to Him.  This means doing one's best, keeping the gossip/non-productive or half-true talk to a minimum, being thoughtful of the people you are doing the work for, and not going about with an attitude of cynicism and "What's in it for me?"

It has taken me many, many years to learn this...
